What is "USA Wrestling" ?
"USA Wrestling is the national governing body for wrestling in the United States, and is responsible for governing freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. USA Wrestling's mission is to promote and develop the sport of wrestling, and to provide opportunities for wrestlers to reach their full potential."
USA Wrestling memberships allow you to compete on various on & off-season competitions. High School wrestling is focused on "folkstyle" wrestling tournaments, but sometimes there are "takedown" & "freesytle" tournament options as well as the ocasional "Greco" style if your wrestler want to try other options as well.
Why Sign Up for USA Wrestling?
Insurance: USA Wrestling membership provides coverage for injuries at USA Wrestling-sanctioned events.
Eligibility: Required to compete in many national and local tournaments.
Coaching Resources: Access to coaching materials and opportunities.
National Network: Participation in a nationwide system with rankings and a pathway to larger events like Nationals, Olympic Trials, etc.
What does the fee cover?
The fee covers just membership to the organization itself. Events require their own tournament entrace fees. Guest/spectator have fees but dont need a membership to attend.
As an individual student wrestler you are expected to have the USA Wrestling membership to participate in some of the off/on season events. You would be registered as a "Traditional Athlete Membership." Note that you would still have to pay the entree fee at each event.
We typically can do a group sign-up and get a wrestling team discount.
Couch James posted a message on the Parent's BandApp indicating that he can take the Venmo payment of $25 for the discounted group rate instead of the normal membership price to be registered with the school's "club" group membership.
When you register you can link yourself up as a wrestler connected to the high school, but you can attend events on your own as well. Make sure to "Claim Profile" to allow to continue to register (on the parent's site).
Students/members 18 years old and over must do the Safe Sport training.
There are optional training courses as well like concussion training
As a parent or a Wrestling Leader you can have your own membership if you are an official volunteer.
